About the Artwork

"This is a piece I made from soft pastels, marker and colored pencil titled 'Refracting God' based on one of my favorite artists, shock rocker Marilyn Manson. There's a song on his 'Golden Age of Grotesque' album titled 'Spade' and a lyric where he says, 'I'm a diamond that is tired of all of the faces I've acquired.' I attempted to make a perfectly cut diamond with fragmented, prismed images of Manson borrowed from different 1990's press photos, portraying identity, fame and erasure of the self."
